The above photo, taken by Earl Leaf, shows four GAZZARRI DANCERS on the set during a rehearsal break. In the front is DALE, and MIMI is behind her on the left. In the back, on the left, is JACQUI, and DeANN is on the right.

This great photo above shows six GAZZARRI DANCERS on the set rehearsing for an episode sometime during the last three months of the show's run.
In the foreground DeANN is on the left and MIMI on the right. The dancer in the middle could be either GWEN or DAWN but from this particular angle looks like neither. Seated in the background is JACQUI with her hair tied back. JUNE and MARIA are behind her.
The photo below is from the same rehearsal and shows JACQUI reading paperwork while JUNE and MARIA watch her. This was JACQUI'S first job as a choreographer in her long career.

This photo shows six GAZZARRI DANCERS on the main dancing platform. The dancer on the far left is probably MIMI (or JUNE). Directly to her right is DALE followed by DeANN. Next to DeANN is JACQUI. The two dancers on the far right are unidentified at this time.
The lower lighting levels used on this show are clearly evident here. Compare this darker set to that of one of the competing shows. It was producer AL BURTON'S idea to use movie lights instead of the usual TV floodlights.

This photo from episode # 19 shows a main dancing platform lineup (left to right) of LUCILLE, ROBERTA, DeANN, DALE, and MIMI. KHJ-TV was channel 9 in southern California.

This photo from April 18, 1965 shows DALE and her HPS friend Valerie Romero on a double date with English singer Ian Whitcomb and his brother Robin Whitcomb. It was taken in the studio of Margo Vann, DALE'S mother, who was a professional photographer. In the background you can faintly make out other photos taken of DALE. Ian and DALE are on the left; Robin and his date on the right.
Ian was in the States promoting his new record, "This Sporting Life", and made his first appearance on HOLLYWOOD A GO-GO only a few days before the photo was taken. DALE was 17 at the time and had only been a GAZZARRI DANCER for a short while.

The rare photo above is from episode # 6 of the show. This dates it from late January 1965. MIMI, DeANN, and JACQUI are easily identifiable as the second, third, and fourth dancers from the right. The other three dancers remain unidentified. We think that the dancers on the far left and far right might be twins. Details from these early episodes are sketchy.

This photo, taken on the HOLLYWOOD A GO-GO set, shows DALE VANN in the lower row on the left and DeANN MOLLNER in the middle. The upper row (from left to right): JUNE WILSON, ROBERTA TENNES, OSCAR WILLIAMS, LUCILLE WILLS, MIMI MACHU.

The photograph above was taken by famed photographer Earl Leaf in his Los Angeles home most likely in 1965. It shows two of the regular GAZZARRI DANCERS who were on many of the episodes of HOLLYWOOD A GO-GO. Standing on the left is JUNE (WILSON) FAIRCHILD and seated on the right is DALE VANN. The painting directly behind DALE is of Earl.
|
Another photo of JUNE and DALE most likely taken in December 1969. This would have been almost four years since the end of HOLLYWOOD A GO-GO and the girls were still close friends. The little guy in the middle is DALE'S son Alfie (Jasen Strong). When asked about her leather outfit, JUNE recalls that it was red. The photographer was Earl Leaf.

Friends both on the HOLLYWOOD A GO-GO set, as well as off, MIMI (left) and JUNE (right) dance it up (two photos above) at The Trip nightclub sometime in 1966 after the show ceased production. The band playing in the background is The Grassroots.
In another photo (below) taken at The Trip in 1965 we can see DeANN dancing directly in front of the stage. On stage are the Byrds with Roger McGuinn, Gene Clark, and Michael Clarke visible. The Byrds made several appearances on HOLLYWOOD A GO-GO.

This great photo was taken in June 1963, a full 18 months before the debut of HOLLYWOOD A GO-GO, and shows future GAZZARRI DANCERS MARIA POGEE (left) and JACQUI LANDRUM (right). Also in the photo is Larry Maldonado, who was one of the great choreographers from the 1950's and 1960's. JACQUI (who was still JACKIE LEVY at this time) had just been hired by Larry, and she was on her way to Camden, NJ for her first dancing job along with MARIA. The two dancers remained lifelong friends and it was JACQUI who brought in MARIA to fill in for MIMI MACHU, who had broken her ankle in early autumn 1965. Sharp-eyed readers might notice the alternate spelling, POHJI, of MARIA'S last name.

This photo on the left shows (from front to back) GAZZARRI DANCERS JUNE, GWEN, MIMI, and DeANN lifting the spirits of some of our Vietnam-era servicemen.
JUNE remembers that the other three dancers and herself were sent to a military base in California to be part of a show in 1965. The stars of this show to entertain the troops were the Everly Brothers, Joey Paige, and the GAZZARRI ladies.
UPDATE: From John Sommerhauser we received the following information: "Of particular interest are the two photos of several girls, if I may, taken at an unnamed military installation somewhere in California, at which the Everly Brothers and Joey Paige appeared in 1965. That installation was MCB 29 Palms, and the servicemen in the photos aren't soldiers, they're Marines! I know, because I was at that show (my dad was stationed at headquarters, prior to his first deloyment to Vietnam) put on by base special services while Don and Phil were there on reserve training. I remember it very well. (A rumor went through the crowd ... the Rolling Stones would be making a surprise appearance. Ha!"

At the same show as shown in the previous photo this lucky soldier has managed to corral the attention of both MIMI (left) and JUNE (right).

The above photo was a promotional shot used in many markets to advertise the show. We see SAM in the middle, with DeANN on the right, and SHELLEY on the left. Also appearing in the photo is MIMI.
It was most likely staged on a taping Saturday in the studio.

This photo appeared as the cover on the November 28, 1965 issue of the HERALD AMERICAN TV Guide. Now known as the "turkey trot" photo, because it appeared as an ad for the show just after Thanksgiving, it shows four GAZZARRI DANCERS. In the back DeANN is on the left and JACQUI on the right. The front row has JUNE on the left and MARIA POGEE on the right.
